Alternative specialist language examination (FSP)

A significant hurdle in obtaining a medical license is the specialist language test (FSP). In Germany, these tests are administered by individual state medical associations, resulting in varied feedback regarding difficulty and examiner objectivity. Subjective factors can influence outcomes, and appeals for failed exams are limited, requiring retesting.

However, since January 2024, an alternative, independent option has emerged. digiFORT now conducts examinations (FaMed) in two federal states using a distinct methodology, bypassing traditional medical association administration. digiFORT is actively pursuing FaMed recognition in additional states, with successful individual recognitions already achieved in Austria, Brandenburg, and Saarland.

FaMed examinations are offered Monday through Friday, with multiple daily sessions at the Mainz examination center. Additional sessions are available in Kassel for Bavarian applicants during periods of high demand. Appointments are typically available within a few days.

Registration is open to all applicants, regardless of prior authorization from licensing authorities or deficit notices.

FaMed Examination Process:

• Appointments are booked via the homepage: https://famed-test.de/buchungsseite/
• No prerequisites are required, except a B2 certificate for Rhineland-Palatinate (recommended for all applicants).
• The on-site examination in Mainz lasts approximately 70 minutes.
• The examination is entirely digital, featuring video conferences with simulated medical scenarios.
• Conversations are audio recorded.
• Evaluations are conducted by at least two independent teams, each comprising a licensed physician and a language professional.

FaMed examination results can be submitted with medical license applications in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate, and, from March 2025, in Baden-Württemberg.

To ensure impartiality, digiFORT does not offer language courses.
